Should have told his father to do whatever. That's no way of asking your son to find a partner. He could find a job and live independently. His father doesn't have an extra son though.

He should tell his parents to fuck off.

He is already an adult who has a job and doesn't seem to have any unhealthy habits (though he does have a very peculiar sex life) so I don't see why they would force him to do shit, much less find someone who will be by his side for the rest of his life unless they divorce.

Father: Oh look, son, the special western snowflakes faction will get triggered by my decision to disown you if you dont get a spouse in a year. Haha.
Mother: Haha.
Son: Haha.

Special western snowflakes: Grumble grumble.

All special kids that are saying "yadda yadda he can chose his own destiny yadda yadda fuk his fater yadda yadda" don't understand the cultural implications of this "disowning" in korea.
Not gonna explain it to you, as you are clearly smarter than I am.

So thinking that a parent who threatens to cut ties with his own child if he doesn't follow his whims is a shitty parent makes me a special snowflake? Care to explain how?

@DanAlucard
I honestly don't know what are the cultural implications of being disowned in Korea so I'd appreciate it if you explained it. Though if it's worse than "I won't ever speak to you again and remove you from my will" then it just reinforces my argument that using it as a threat to force your son to make one of the biggest life-changing decisions he can make is an asshole move.

@Acolytus Do you think a business that's more interested in profit is better or worse than the wellness of it's workers (or called "family-like atmosphere")? It's neither, they are just different types of businesses. Same with families, different rules apply to them in different regions in the world.

Maybe you could never imagine how a parent would disown his children under any but the most extraordinary circumstances because you were raised like that. In a different part of the world, however, people were raised differently. You have more strict requirements to be called a family member... Like in this case.

Man this guy is such a dumbass; she literally told him in no uncertain terms "fuck my brains out!" one day ago, and he was perfectly willing. At least fucking ask her to go steady if he can't commit to an engagement right away with someone he's known for literally 20 years! OR if he didn't want a relationship, then he should have told her "No" when she gave him the out right before they fucked! This is bullshit drama!

@Maala I disagree with comparing businesses with families but I get the idea. I still think MC should ignore his parents and just leave the house (that way he won't have any financial ties with his family anymore) but I do admit I don't know shit about how korean culture works and I don't think arguing about it will serve any purpose.

That said, I still don't see how having a different concept of how a family should be due to being raised in a different culture makes me a "special snowflake". If anything, it's kind of hypocritical of you to claim that I shouldn't judge another culture based on my own cultural values when you just mocked people of another culture for having different values.

@Acolytus, there is a serious answer and a much less serious answer to that so I start with the serious one.

This is just a plot device that is very common on Korean stories, that is a device to make the MC to actually do something. Taking this serious is kinda dumb because you would have to believe that somehow this its either real life or this is in any way a exact true reflection of Korean society.

Now for the less serious one.

The author don’t need a 20-year-old Leddit Them to tell him what didn’t work about this, It wasn’t made for Them! He want to know what it meant to Korean Teenage CIS Males.

@Exile So I have one guy telling me this is how korean families work and you telling me it's a shitty plot device, which one is it? Even if it's the later, I don't see why I should ignore what I see as poor writing or a character being an asshole just because it's a common plot device or because this is pretty much porn. If something annoys me then I'm going to complain about it.

I don't even understand what you are trying to say with that last few lines and I get the feeling it would be better if I don't.

Hokay...
The coworker didn't have him up on sexual harassment/assault charges after (accidentally) ripping her shirt off, and offers herself as a marriage option... and he goes "Ha ha, good joke. Naw, I've got some options already, I think, maybe."
Oblivious.

Then again, Min-Eul did list stupid and dense, or words to those effect, as part of the characteristics she wanted when in a potential date when she was actually describing him.
And, after finally realizing that she was interested in him, and had been for years, and boinking her, he doesn't consider her an actual candidate for marriage, but merely someone who would go along with being a fake girlfriend.

WTF do these women see in him, anyway?
Yes, at heart, he's a nice enough guy, but man oh man, he is so f-ing clueless!
And very non-motivated about anything in his life.
The coworker started at the same time as him, and is now higher in the hierarchy... in Korea.
My understanding is that the glass ceiling is much thicker here and more opaque there.
He himself acknowledges that it's because he isn't putting out the effort and she is that she's ahead of him in advancement.

And, it's that he hasn't done anything to improve his life that has led to the threat of being disowned.
If this doesn't motivate him to move forward with his life... not fake it, like he's setting out to do, but really change his life around, yeah, I can understand where they are coming from.
Because, we haven't been shown anything that indicates that he isn't capable of doing far more with himself, he's just been content to drift through life.
It's not like he has a disability of some sort. You recognize those and work with them in regard to expectations.
But that doesn't appear to be what's going on.

His little sister... may not be a brocon after all.
What will her reaction be when she catches on to what's up?
Is she above using him to get access to Min-Eul?

Just what has the author planned for us next?

@Acolytus Probably seeing all the sheltered people who cant think out of the box right from the start and write posts about how exaggerated they are by a different idea of living life as they do... is what's making me saying they are special little snowflake. It has a nicer ring in the ears than calling them frogs in a well, dont you think? Most people dont like frogs, but like snowflakes. Also they are all unique, just how everyone likes to think about themselves. :-o
