Thank you everyone for your feedback! It really helps a lot and once this series reaches the end I'll be able to say,
“I survived Tsugou. I gave it nuance. I gave it soul. And I regret nothing.” (Only the parts I couldn't totally grasp)
I'm finally starting to come to grips with how Yamada conceived the story.
Hm, this is an unpopular opinion, but I think Touko and Wataru are two peas in a pod. None of them was able to turn down the omiai because they acted according to what their family demanded expected. It was a convenient marriage due to social status and what makes the world go round, money. It resulted in a passive-aggressive allegedly subservient woman's behaviour who wouldn't dare defy her bigot conservative mother and a verbally abusive husband who can't rebel for the same reason (family and society). They're both victims and offenders. Amen to trauma. If those two had children, let a vicious cycle be perpetrated.
Had they said, "NO!" at least once in their life, we wouldn't be here. That's indeed food for thought.
I'd like to put a good word for Touko for once. In this chapter, she didn't regress to her "baby" stage. Even I would stand up and say, "Get a grip, girl!"
I'm doing my best to keep myself neutral. It's getting harder and harder.
