As they slowly become more understood by their love interest, they gain more definition and detail in the eyes of the reader.

Also, they get gradually pulled away from the Chad/Fukboi/Hentai protagonist realm, and all the pitfalls (and powers) that realm entails. Basically, they become a real boy.
