I was actually surprised at how accomplished the founder of DeLorean was, before he started his own company which ultimately cost his entire career. While he was in GM, he was behind iconic cars like the Pontiac GTO, and the Chevrolet Nova and Vega. No wonder why consumers were looking forward to his new enterprise (DMC) with great interest at first, even though we now know the DeLorean as a bit of a lemon now.

I am glad that the delorean is making a comeback now such a great car. Although I would never think of buying one (lotus esprit exists) I still find it quirky and nice to look at.

Surprisingly the previous owners didn't scrub out Mayumi's name.

Don't say never on the missing delorean moulds, the chinese have already started doing making brand new body reproduction parts for the AE86. Who knows they may be making for the Delorean soon?

It's worth considering that the name was in Japanese in the raws so it's plausible that the (unaware) new owners didn't understand it. Regardless it was likely that they would've tried to get it off, but it's permanent marker most likely.

The missing moulds were actually tracked down, read about it here.

About the AE86 moulds, apparently (who knows if this anecdote is equally real) the pictures and videos of the "reproduction shell" isn't really a "reproduction shell", but a real body that just happened to be in that state for some other purpose. Comment here.

yeah I already knew about the ones being used in the fish farm, but I actually had in mind dies that could be actually used but still lost out there. brings me to mind how a lot of the old G1 Transformer moulds were lost to the 4 corners of China yet some have been painstakingly recovered in some old warehouse.

I doubt the chinese ae86 ones, (if it was really true) used the original toyota moulds as well, so maybe there is some other industrial process to reproduce those shells.
