Hey all, we're back for 2025! Starting off the year with volume 14, and a familiar face returns!

Here's a cutout of a few panels that I found some potential to be used as a meme template. Thanks for checking the comments!

Thanks a lot, coming here every day waiting for the chapter has been almost as painful as noticing some rust bubbles under my side window. The effort on the monetary conversion is particularly appreciated.

Cool choice on the 22B. I'd keep my MR2, and add a Dino 246gt and a Middlebridge Scimitar.

Now F40's are $2-3M depending on condition and pedigree. Countach LP400 Periscopio are over $1M.
If I won the lottery I would ask Italdesign to build me a rodeworthy and updated version of their Bugatti ID90 prototype.

Kept you waiting, huh?

Thanks for the positive feedback on the monetary conversions. Although only now with recent comments that I have noticed that inflation does affect the accuracy of these a bit. For example, 200 million yen in 2008 (time of release of this volume) is 224 million yen in 2024, but I plugged the values in the chapter into a Google conversion without considering inflation. Perhaps I should do something like "200M JPY (2008) = 224M JPY (2024) = 1.4M USD (2024)" in the future.

Any thoughts on that?

looking at the horseracing picture, it appears from the bottom of the cut-off letters on the goal post to be at Nakayama Racecourse
so it's probably meant to be Arima Kinen, the big end of year G1 race that everyone in Japan bets on for good luck in the new year

I think you're better off using historical exchange rates. The Yen was a lot stronger back when this manga was published. For example in 2004 (when this manga started), the exchange rate was about 1 USD to 110 JPY. In 2008, it was about ~105.

That's a good point, I hadn't thought of that until now. Using historical exchange rates for 2008, 1 USD equaled ~109 Yen. 200,000,000/109 = ~1,800,000 USD (2008), adjusted for inflation to 2024 = ~2.6M USD. That's a big difference and it feels more representative of current purchasing power with that amount. In fact that's such a huge difference that I might go back and redo the recent notes about the currency conversions.

Yes I think that'd be a great addition. I personally like to use the US Bureau of Labor Statistics calculator, combined with historical USD conversion rates. We all very much appreciate the amount of care and effort you put in these translations.
