Thank you! I much prefer this version as well, though I found delinquent Kippei pretty amusing too. Chapter 114 actually wasn't part of volume 14 at all, as far as I'm aware, though I guess it's wrongly listed on here.Awesome scanlation!
I honestly was hoping that the previous version wouldn't come to light, but now that it has; I genuinely prefer this.
Even though it might have been better to just start with this flashback rather than do last chapter as awkwardly, I think they were pidgeonholed into it by the teaser at the end of volume 14.
I assume the last panel is supposed to be ambiguous? I have no way of interpreting if the her is Hana/Mei, or the it being in Iruma/being a crossdresser/etc.
Ah, I didn't mean 114 proper, rather this on the last page of the volume.Thank you! I much prefer this version as well, though I found delinquent Kippei pretty amusing too. Chapter 114 actually wasn't part of volume 14 at all, as far as I'm aware, though I guess it's wrongly listed on here.
Considering Hana's request was for Kaede to let her know should she ever run into Mei again, personally I'm assuming that Kaede was saying she'll definitely tell Hana if she sees her, so that might be a mistranslation on our part where "you" probably should work instead, oops :']
Ohhh you mean the volume previews itself. Yeah, it was probably already set to release by the time the decision was made to do the rewrite, so they probably couldn't deviate too far from the original chapter's beginning I assume.Ah, I didn't mean 114 proper, rather this on the last page of the volume.

The intent of making Kippei look eerily similar to Yuuma (enough that Kanoko and Shuumei both mistook him for the latter in the original) was still the same, except he was a lot taller + definitely designed to be more delinquent-like. He fell for Shuumei first as "he was just his type" before running into Mei at a later date and somehow recognising them as the same person. While Kippei got petty and jealous when finding out Shuumei had a friend he was fond of who looked just like him and yet he got rejected when they met, it was nowhere near the level of possessiveness the current Kippei/Kaede has for Yuuma/Hana, LOL.So there was an original release where Kippei was a delinquent who liked Mei, but it was rewritten into this current chapter with him being Yuuma's doppelganger?
And those chapters were released and then retconned? Like what Murata does with One Punch Man?The intent of making Kippei look eerily similar to Yuuma (enough that Kanoko and Shuumei both mistook him for the latter in the original) was still the same, except he was a lot taller + definitely designed to be more delinquent-like. The author wrote themselves into a dead end without thinking about how the new plotline will lead up to the final arc on top of going through some health issues. After a request and negotiation with their editor they agreed and decided to revamp it, so I guess its less of a retcon and more of a rewrite instead, this time while leading up to the inevitable ending. And those chapters were released and then retconned? Yeah that sounds like Murata with OPM. It doesn't fill me with confidence that the author can make major changes like these after releasing chapters. The author wrote themselves into a dead end without thinking about how the new plotline will lead up to the final arc on top of going through some health issues. This has been going on since the end of the school festival, and I'd argue its more likely the editor who's forced it onto the author because they are kinda the golden goose of MagXIV.This new narcissistic doppelganger plot twist seems like pure filler. The mangaka seems to just be delaying the inevitable full-stop end of the manga that happens once Yuuma and Shuumei's misunderstandings finally get revealed.
Still, it would be very interesting to read translations of the original, pulled chapters 114 and 115. I would kind of like seeing for myself what corner the mangaka painted for themselves that was so fatal two chapter had to get yoinked.
