I get the confusion! Shiranami starts referring to Aida as "こいつ" (koitsu), which is like a somewhat mean/derogatory way to address someone. A common translation for it is "this guy", but I do suppose "guy" is a gendered term, I didn't really think about that since I usually interpret it as more gender neutral in this context. I also thought using "this person" instead sounded a little awkward so I opted for "this guy". Aida is a girl though! Hope that clears things up and thanks for pointing it out!
