I don't think her powers have been explained yet, but apparently she grew something like slave souls out of them or some shit. But we don't know anything other than what's seen in this chapter

In an earlier chapter (I forget which one), the mad snake scientist guy revealed that he knows she's a parasitic human (and tried to threaten her with it). Near the end of chapter 17 shows a bit of how they can grow. I guess since she used them on these uncooperative researchers, they also absorb the knowledge of their host? Also she seems to have some guilt over the person she fed on/killed.

Well color me surprised i was sure the parasite on Theta was her helmet, but it seems like that was just a helmet shaped like a tick

Which means that the parasite attaches itself to the body at a spiritual level, and then kicks the original soul out of the body
