As a writer myself, and one who's been plagiarized before (happens a lot with fan fiction), I have to respect the approach this series is taking to explore aspects of why some people don't immediately demonize plagiarists. Just like the victims, one thing I always wonder is "Why?" Sometimes it's attention seeking, but other times it felt like just a kid/teen wanting to share something they liked and just not realizing how truly wrong it was.

In this case, there's an extra emotional layer because the victims had been friends with Seven. That can make the theft hit worse because it becomes an actual betrayal, but everyone has their own reactions (as seen in the few panels showing them). And even with the betrayal, they don't want to be the direct reason he experiences the horrible harassment that would follow being revealed.

For all the pain from the betrayal, not everyone is able to immediately cut off any positive feelings and care for a person. There's a reason people struggle so much cutting off toxic relatives or friends. It's not a matter of being wishy-washy, human emotions are just complicated like that. So, it's just nice to see the story focus on the emotional aspect and try to explore the roots rather than just go for one-dimensional villainization.
