I can really imagine all the old folks ages ago retelling those stories, each and every one of them embellishing them a little bit more, until we actually got something akin to this manga version. It's like those legends of ancient China, of the legendary vikings and all the insane feats of power or incomprehensible events happening time and time again. It's a form of expression I enjoy really. Like "The Northman" from a few years ago.
