I like this case. Two different culprits to capture, Chiba debut, and Sataou getting some backstory and closure. Detective Boys pretty much solved the arson case without Conan's help.

What her father wrote is ka-n-o, that is カンオ in katakana.
The pronunciation is totally different from ka-no which would be カノ, and from what I understand, this is enough for Japanese to not associate the two words as the same.
Takagi only figured it out after getting the inspiration to convert the katakana to romaji, which I'm assuming isn't something immediately intuitive for most Japanese people.
This probably isn't exactly a good/equivalent enough example. But it's like writing uuright or 2uright for wright.
