My guess is that the author felt that it was tired cliche that the guards would force themselves on her, but the fact simply is that in 99% cases of corruption to this level, they would force themselves on her.

It isn't cliche when it is purely in accordance to human behavior when it has cast away its moral restraints.

The majority of your soldiers are going to be common people, not nobility, and given the seasonal nature of war you're going to have seasoned soldiers in places like this that WILL burn your shit down.
