Given this volume was published in 2002 this would have been a fairly recent vintage well before the shipwreck in 1997 caused prices of future vintages to soar, and even then the price was still around $400 USD or 48,000¥ by the general conversion rate in 2002. Still very expensive but Shima likely had a very good job and likely got wines like Pingus and Richebourg for much less than the sticker price given the hypothetical association with his company's wine importing business and the likely lower demand Japanese wine buying market compared, at the time, to those in America and Europe.
