Yeah its weird that they're trying so hard to sugarcoat Shuuji being the worst scum of them all.

Anyways so THATS why Sumi fell for Shuuji. And also why Shuuji went for Sumi cause of Sakuraba leaving him due to his own inferiority and the fact he noticed Sakuraba likes her. Also explains why Sumi never bothered breaking up with Shuuji too.
