I've started re-reading the manga as we approach the end and I'm surprised how skinny Kaiman and Nikaido are at the beginning (in comparison to the present). It makes sense since they've been eating Gyoza for the entire duration of the manga. I'm loving the idea that this was intentional.

ToxicPilgrim, honestly, I don't think it was intentional. Spoiler alert:
When Kai arrived to Hole and got killed by Curse, he was already HUGE and fat.
Kaiman's head also looked different in the very first chapters.
So, basically it's just Hayashida mastering her art style.
