It will sadly always be like this in manga because editors gotta milk that shit (and less often poor writing skills). Zom100 just had the same happen to it, author is dogshit with romance, even confessed on twitter that he has no idea what he is doing (ended up inserting his own fetish even tho it made no sense, lmao) but editors legit suck the soul out of every single romance manga. Then when the author needs to include it they fail or go for tutorial-rival #7602- yawn. What's up with that shit show?! Authors really have to always add some rivals and make a stupid triangle out of it. Also I really don't like that blackmailing vibe from that new girl. Hopefully she dissipates into nothingness in the next chapters, really don't wanna see her meddling with our cute group.. Author why, just why?
It's because they often like the dynamics of their main cast and don't want to make their main cast do "bad" things or be potentially unlikable at all. They don't want to rock the boat, basically. So, instead they interject a new character like a sacrificial lamb to do all the necessary stuff that complex characters are supposed to do. Some authors will be upfront about this in their afterwards etc. It's bad either way because all characters should be complex but a lot of these stories don't intend to do that or don't seem confident enough. What's up with that shit show?!
