Wouldn't a beard be more sensible thing to do in the cold. I thought hair supposed to keep the body warm. Also he had a really great growth & styling.

Even if that still he built didn't blow up, the thing wouldn't have been able to function properly anyways. He didn't have any way to cool the vapors traveling through that pipe. It would all just escape as a gas and he would get jack shit out of it.

And after reading the rest of the chapter, that still shouldn't work even now for the same reason.
