We are pretty clearly missing something because I don't think Lienna has appeared strong enough to warrant another nation holding off on invading. Lienna's own recollection is that she never fought on the frontline so either she's lying to us the reader for no particular reason or she did something casually that instilled fear in the other nations.

Was Claire that same girl that kept Lienna from living a normal life? I mean I guess I like that she got murked and the whole country is gonna be destroyed. It just feels kind of anticlimactic. Presumable the knights that got killed were the strongest below Lienna but like if they're not that strong how could Lienna be strong or be trained to be that strong. Lienna has been swamped in paper work since becoming the commander and doesn't have time to train. How could she possibly have gotten stronger or stayed as strong as before under these circumstances?
We’ve seen her train her whole life without a single moment of recreation.

We also never actually saw her fight the dragon - she passed out from exhaustion right as it arrived and swallowed her. She then survived the debris pile unharmed which even Amon was impressed by because that’s never happened before or since - even he used magic to protect himself.

She then fought Amon - someone implied to be on the level of an archmage who jumped into the dragon’s mouth voluntarily believing he could fight it. She only lost this fight because of her exhaustion and because Amon trapped her footing so that the new day’s debris pile (including a ship) would fall on her and crush her - she lived. The cause of this fight in chapter 1 was that by trying to cut her way out of the dragon, even just the shockwaves from her sword swings destroyed her surroundings and ruined Amon’s house.

We also know that her duties extended beyond paperwork (such as the scouting/audit she was doing), but that she’s so competent that she’s being assigned these tasks alone so no one else witnessed her.

The story has been very upfront that she’s superhuman. She’s an overworked superhuman, but her being able to single handedly deter an invasion like this is believable.

This.

And while there is corruption at play (her boss is absolutely a turd), I don't think it is any great plan or conspiracy here. The kingdom got complacent, and everyone got used to being untouchable while mistreating their well known hydrogen bomb.

That nobody realized how fucked her workload was until they HAD to look at it is a big fat red flag of how poorly managed the whole place is.

Meanwhile, our enemy forces - though cocky - are showing much better organization and planning. That this slaughter is just a test run to show their higher ups how smooth things will go, is not only great villain material; it shows actual planning and thought.

If not for a mysterious beauty and her wee sidekick, this would have been a flawless run for the baddies.

I didn't need this in this manga I just wanted to see cool sights, not political intrigue and fights with knights against knights. Let the commander have her do.

There's something pretty tragic about one chapter introducing the other candidates for the commander position only to see them get absolutely devastated despite their best efforts.

Justice for ardian knights. How come the entire knights only hold for 13 minutes. 2 vice commanders who have potential to become knight commander been killed in 13 minutes. Or they’ve got ambushed ? Can someone explain the power scales plz ?

This was just a routine patrol, one they likely haven't taken seriously for years, so they were completely lax. The enemy objective was to blitz the shit out of the knight patrol and confirm how weak or strong they are.
They also note being 3 minutes over was because of JUST Claire, which says a lot that the other knights likely got taken down within the 10 minute timer, so she managed to hold on against overwhelming numbers for 3 minutes, and she was still alive even after that butchering. They are lax, but they are still pretty capable.
Also, we can't be sure if the ardian knights weren't able to take down any of the enemy, just that they lost.

Oh yeah I forgot. They were lax, even the knight commander only do documents without facing any battles. Yeah that will dull their skills.
But I’m quite sad that marvul getting beheaded like that. I thought only lost an arm or leg or badly injured like claire and couple of knights still alive…something like that. Guess this manga has dark-fantasy genres too.
