Okay so the premise of the .hack manga that Rei Izumi drew was that a few years after the events of the original games CC Corp ran a contest that awarded special chibi avatars of Kite and BlackRose to the winner. A girl named Rena wins and gives the Kite avatar to her twin brother Shugo. Then Aura who was the one who ACTUALLY ran the contest and personally selected Rena and by extension Shugo gives Shugo a new Twilight Bracelet and shenanigans and vaguely incestuous themes ensue. Also Balmung is a GM and whines about his responsibilities CONSTANTLY.

Edit: Point is it's technically not Kite, it's Shugo, and he's there because the mangaka did a .hack manga 20+ years ago. It's called Legend of the Twilight Bracelet.

I had heard of Legend of the Twilight Bracelet, but I hadn't read it and never realised Rei Izumi was the artist for it. This was certainly a nice surprise.
