What are patterns you have noticed that a manga kinda isn't going to have a great time going forward?

One I noticed was "Franchising", when Submanga's appear. Example's being Attack on Titan getting a side series while it's running. It was from a different author, that adapted the novel, but it kinda still was a sign that the publisher went a bit too ambitious on trying to turn it into a full franchise. Later, Attack on Titan ended in a way that can be described as highly controversial and unsatisfying, so...
I also noticed the same happening with Demon Slayer, though that was to a lesser extent.

hmm...
I'm not sure about that.
Because if the sub-manga was done by different authors, that shouldn't have much of an impact on the main story, right?
Like, that shouldn't have much of an effect on the ending that the original author has envisioned.
Now, if by "great time" you mean that their reputation could be damaged by the publisher's decisions... well... you've chosen two very bad examples there.

But for the topic, welp, I don't have any pattern to submit.
There are a ton of manga that I hated and already dropped early on, wished would be axed sooner, but still going strong to this day with dozens if not hundreds of chapters.
So it's more like "a pattern that I'm the one who's not going to have a great time with a certain manga going forward"
and not the manga.
(what a long-winded way of saying "a preference")

i pinpoint the reason i drop manga because i asume that going bad (and often right in my opinion when i force to continue read it)
  • the story change from early chapter...for example from revenge manga to regular harem manga...
  • drag off for no reason (often happen in regression story..mc be like "oh no..she/he is bad guys, i will have my revenge..but after i finish useless thing have nothing to do with my revenge..so bad guys can do bad thing first"
  • add random bulshit that not even significant to the story (often to happen in chinese manhua, random courting death character, auction arch out of nowhere, and so on)
  • too much plot armor..especially the power of friendship...and sometime "too late" flashback power up...mc get beaten - remember flashback - win...why not flashback before get beaten...lol
  • its happen at romance manga, dense mc maybe funny...but repeated formula are boring...i can tolerated if mc not interested in romance at all (maybe focus to beat demon lord or something...lol)
  • naive, pushover mc..meet anoying, self righteous side character....you know what happen when those two element meet? thats right...constant damsel in distress
maybe i have several more reason drop manga..but i forgot why...maybe i can add latter...lol

For me, what I've noticed also goes hand in hand with when a manga is about to get axed. There's usually some progression to the story or an arc, and suddenly things go back to the status quo and sort of just say, "the adventure continues!! thanks for reading!" while leaving many unanswered questions.

It's a battle shonen or shonen rom-com, and it's already at more than 10 tomes.

Chance of fast degradation are increased if it's the Shonen Jump prepublication subtype.

  • excessive fan service
  • filler chapters
  • inconsistencies with characters or any prior development lost
  • introduced new obscure bs skills for the sake of powercreeping
  • illogical time skips
  • no morally gray characters
  • predictable and safe plot
  • influenced by global interest n excessive marketing of merch
  • repeat slapstick humor
  • maybe even having an anime adaptation

So... examples, Noragami, Black Clover, Fairy Tail, S7D, Oshi No Ko, etc.
