It had more focus on the fact that the MC is fat as a defense mechanism from being molested than on anything sexual so far

Yes, exactly. I wouldn't mind if the progress on that part of the plot was fast enough, but it isn't at all, which makes the manga's pacing feel slow as hell, especially with the amount of slice-of-life fluff that leads nowhere.

I think it's just a super slow burn, she's shown SOME interest in him, but she's got major issues right now.
