agreed AGREED THERE'S NO PURPOSE OF ABUSING THE MC, (to me at least) IT'S NOT FUNNY, IT'S NOT ENTERTAINING WHEN IT HAPPENS, THERE'S NO POINT OF THIS "MC ABUSE" TROPESonia: "Junpei let's use some erotic magic on Kaede"
Also Sonia: axe kicks Junpei when he does
This stupid ass "abusing the MC for no reason" trope needs to die ASAP
Japanese have the most weirdest sense of humor I swearagreed AGREED THERE'S NO PURPOSE OF ABUSING THE MC, (to me at least) IT'S NOT FUNNY, IT'S NOT ENTERTAINING WHEN IT HAPPENS, THERE'S NO POINT OF THIS "MC ABUSE" TROPE
Theres slapstick comedy and then theres this fucking trope. At least its not everywhere like it was in the 2000sSonia: "Junpei let's use some erotic magic on Kaede"

One Piece does a good job with it, at least when any of the Straw Hats gets smacked by Nami, it's cause they deserved it for doing/saying stupid shit which happens often, and it's actually funnyTheres slapstick comedy and then theres this fucking trope. Fuck no! One Piece with Nami is the worst offender of that aids trope. One Piece does a good job with it, at least when any of the Straw Hats gets smacked by Nami, it's cause they deserved it for doing/saying stupid shit which happens often, and it's actually funny

Like I said, when she does it it's cause it's deserved, that's not even close to how bad this manga handles itFuck no! One Piece with Nami is the worst offender of that aids trope.
No it isn't. The shit she pulls is never deserved.Like I said, when she does it it's cause it's deserved, that's not even close to how bad this manga handles it
Yea just by you saying that I already know you've never touched One Piece, why give your opinion about something you don't read/watch?No it isn't. The shit she pulls is never deserved.
I've probably been reading one piece longer than you've been alive. And I can tell you right now, there is nothing Luffy or anyone on the crew have done to deserve being brutally abused by someone who is supposed to be a close friend. Unless you think it's cool to beat your homies over trivial matters?Yea just by you saying that I already know you've never touched One Piece, why give your opinion about something you don't read/watch?
In a world of magic, physically checking a mark like that seems to be the least reliable method. Especially when the one your checking has magical powers AND wants to hide that mark.
Sure, keep spewing more lies, you don't read One Piece and it's obvious, no amount of gaslighting is gonna convince me otherwiseI've probably been reading one piece longer than you've been alive. And I can tell you right now, there is nothing Luffy or anyone on the crew have done to deserve being brutally abused by someone who is supposed to be a close friend. Well said, yo. I feel that pretty perfectly captures the sentiment of us western audiences when faced with this trope. It's similar to the complaints about ntr; it clearly stems from different cultural and societal norms about what men fantasize about women. Thanks for the chapter, Slayer Scans.
Seems like the whole point of it was to set up that axe kick.
On one hand, and in the interest of covering everything, Sonia didn't tell Junpei to dive into her crotch as he did--he wouldn't need to do that to see the mark, but he did anyway.
On the other hand, and given his positioning on that table, only the JP author's pen kept Sonia's axe kick from breaking Junpei's neck or worse. Sonia would have killed a guy she has nothing to do with for being perverted with another girl who barely minds the act herself. It's the latest of a LONG tradition of extremely violent--and excessive in the fact that it's violent to begin with--realizations of feminine displeasure paired with a flagrant lack of self-awareness done for slapstick, with the accompanying accusation against those who write such events still hitting its mark to this day: they would never tolerate a man doing the same to a woman.
I used to think that this was written because of a deeply held idea that women cannot harm men, while men should be able to take everything a woman throws at him. (This is quite ironic, BTW, as JP authors have been making their MCs effeminate/devoid of proper masculinity for years, now.) This is probably still the case to some degree, but I think it's also because of rampant masochism among JP authors. A lot of them are effeminate in this way (among others), and they share this state with plenty of their fellows in the anime, manga, and related hobbies--in Japan and outside (think of all the guys you can find online saying they want some sexualized violent woman or another to inflict violence on them, for just one example).
A lot of JP creators seem to get off on the idea of being beaten up by girls, and it stems from their age-old taste for being rejected by girls--one that's still very much alive (the 100% tsuntsun "tsundere", for example).

and i can totally see that. It's not hard to make the connection between Japan's portrayal of incest and the explosion of that subgenre in western porn.Well, if things keep going in this direction, those "different cultural and societal norms" aren't going to be very different for long. Many underestimate the influence of Japanese entertainment--something that's already worldwide, despite not even liked by the entirety of Japanese society itself: if the creators are the types to like such things, constantly glorifying it in their works, while those who consume their works let their libidos be corrupted, those norms will converge soon enough. I would say that the process had already begun for many years, now.
This isn't to say that Japan's creators need to do something about this, however--they don't; rather, it's the audience that needs to be aware of what it is they're reading, watching, or whatever else the case may be.
