i enjoy that every scp inspired work always feels similar to one another. control, lobotomy corporation, now this. makes it really easy to get into one another

At least the organization was honest about their intentions with them, rather than hanging "Freedom" in front of them as they continue sending them to dangerous place after dangerous place, saying that they just need them to check one or more places.
As bad as things are for them, it at least looks like the CIA is not going to manipulate them. They'll just make clear that, given their circumstances, they only have 2 options, and both are terrible.

Thanks for the chapter :D

It is interesting that Kinoko and Azu seem to share a death date. Is there one aberrant that will end up killing them?

Also, from that panel on page 22, I guess we know what happens if you ask the phone a second question without hanging up.

Really interested in the possibility that Azu dying is the way they turn back into humans, but honestly, that person seemed sketchy so they probably just lied about what the phone actually does

I knew from first chapters that this might be a bit dark but the way Kino desperately tried to get any scrap of affection from the doctor lady despite the fact she clearly dislikes them was one of the saddest thing I read in a long time. The fact they seemingly don't have any support structure outside the organization is also very considering with how we see them treated so far.

The phone is such a menace. It is just calling. Yet, they can make some unknown effect to the caller.

I suppose known-all-answerer is annoyed by people relying them too much and decided to make harshest consequences out of it.

I don’t think this is going to get any answer, since the earlier chapters give open answers to ponder and SIA only cares for how to handle them.

I think that actually answer the question

On assumption, what the phone is telling is a truth.

It could mean she will realize in one year later that she has to let Anzu die to return normal.

Or, if SIA knew they had to be taken down after they became more powerful in one year.

As it is, SIA seems barely have reason to kill them from understaffing.

The Addendum in the Wisdom Rotary description adds some ambiguity to whether it's answering Hara's quesion at all. We can probably be sure it's being accurate that Azu will die in one year.

So this leaves Hara with some possibilities:
  1. Find a way to cure her and Azu's condition within one year (Fighting destiny).
  2. The circumstances around Azu's death one year from now is different from her other "deaths" and will be the key to making them normal (e.g. Hara is forced to heal Azu beyond 16 years so things loop back around to her becoming 16 again)
  3. Dying is what makes people normal, immortality isn't human, so there was nothing to change at all (The Dark Souls thesis).
  4. Hara is already aware they can never change (She's asking something she already knows the answer to) so the phone "punishes" her.
Either way, it's a great plot hook and puts a timer to this story.

that phone was creepy as hell. Azu will die in one year. so they've got a year to get out from under the SIA's thumb. Unless the thing that kills Azu will be what reverts them from being aberrations. unless there is no cure, and that this is what they have always been. the opening pages of the chapter reminded me a bit about the siblings backstory from Mysterious Disappearances.
