The reason she's reaching out is bc her marriage is falling apart and she's monkey branching, some ppl are like that, they dont let go of a current SO until they have another secured waiting for them.
Diana's intention is to secure an escape plan in case she gets divorced and has to leave the palace, she knows if she gets dumped by the Prince and given the state of things the temple (facing such a huge financial loss bc of her) wont help her retain her noble status and luxury living standards. And given how much she scorned the nobles and later pushed for ppl to invest in the merchant disaster, non of the nobles would open their doors for her.
So now she's desperate for a backup plan and thats where Kaelus comes in, since he used to be in love with her she thinks if she tries to rekindle things she will have a place to go and somebody with the political, financial and social standing to be her safety net and back her up until she can rebuild her image.
