Fun fact: "von Muehlen" is based on a real person--Henricus van Meegeren, who conned Herman Göring into buying a fake Vermeer during the Nazi occupation of the Netherlands. In fact, his forgery was so good that van Meegeren was almost executed after the war for selling off a "priceless cultural artifact"--he had to paint another Vermeer in front of the jury to convince them he was the real artist!
