I can't really agree with the idea that you should ever prioritize your career over raising your child, especially if the other parent isn't present, no matter how passionate you are or how much your late partner encouraged you to do it. If that's your philosophy, don't have a child in the first place. You can't be certain the other person will always be present to deal with the inconvenient stuff for you. There's no way the child will be happier because you pursued your dreams instead of being present in their life. That's just your selfishness.
