I have a G-Jump jacket, and let me tell you, it's THE comfiest outerwear I have.
If I have to pick one from each category, I'd go with a tailored jacket with an oversized fit and M65. Though, I think I'd prioritise M65; I'm a sucker for outerwear with many pockets.

LOL i think i need more jackets/pullover hoodies tho it doesn't always get cold that easily. Tho i have a habit of being sleeveless to make it easier to use deodorant sprays (i'm sure some vests are a thing but other than like a camping kinda place idk how common that is)
dressing up for a date makes sense but hopefully it doesn't end with him 'overdressed' and the other person looking worse in comparison but i guess it's hard to compare with womens clothing b/c even the 'casual dresses' in japan that gets drawn for animanga and live action stuff still seems fairly cute without being luxury brands lol
Although there's no romance tag (not that 'dates' still can't happen in live actions), so i don't think it'd be too typical of a date versus him just meeting some female friends
Tho, that said, while the coats do look 'cool' unless you're gonna go on a walking date all day/be outside, i feel like it'd be something you'd take off when you sit down to eat/have to worry about folding it or so, unless you go to a 'fancy' enough place where they take ur coats (tho i think 'cute' might be more endearing/disarming than 'cool' if he got a successful date to begin with versus looking like an intimidating model [and, while i like his 'floofy' hair, i don't think it's as common/popular in asian compared to like famous idols/actors and such so i would've expected him to be told "straighten your hair/get a perm" or so])
Also mildly off topic but it'd be hilarious if, after all this 'fashion' talk , every public interview this mangaka ever has basically is them showing up in pjs/sweats/sweatpants XD

sukajan mentioned let's goooooo (i remembered that higuchi wore it once but still) i love them, though they're not real japanese one but i have one from local brand and custom made Kuko Harai's for the sake of cosplay but haven't entertained the idea again yet
