You guys don't understand. This is existential torture.

I guess that's also a form of revenge. He is going to die tortured by the fact that he let the one person who understood him and cared for him sincerely die and betrayed her.

That after all that he has done while his wife was alive, she knew and has forgiven him. The guilt and the pain from losing someone like that and even betraying that trust and devotion. I can see it as a form of torture. Plus he is going to die because he'll keep on uselessly apologizing and die without food and water.

Raoul's sister was actually an angel. Oh my god.
The amount of respect he has for her to even consider not taking revenge on someone his sister cared about but ultimately betrayed. Fuck this shit is heavy.

It is a cruel mercy he did show him there. he is in no way lentient to him. he is literally letting him suffer heavy guilt and fear. everyone who did try this.. knows it is NOT a fun thing to feel like that.. so looping it forever or until he dies..it is a living HELL.

He's forever denied the one thing he wants most..forgiveness from a woman that genuinely loved him and wanted to help him recover from his past.

All he'll ever see until the moment of his death is her disappointed gaze. No matter how hard or how long he begs. And when he does die, he won't be granted paradise but instead a literal hell, tormented for eternity by the weight of his infidelities.

He's likely to die of dehydration or exposure before starving. 3 days without water or 3 hours without shelter if I remember it right.
Death by dehydration is probably worse than starving, not as dramatic as being a fleshy skeleton, but there's a LOT of critical functions that require liquids... and once you reach a certain threshold, you basically need an IV to have a CHANCE at recovery.

I understand that he's semi letting him go due to his sister's own personal desires. But honestly, he's scum that deserves what's coming for him. If he's truly regretting his actions, then good for him to suffer eternally in this way. Though honestly it's pretty lenient considering that he could just rip his soul, reincarnate him, wipe his memories selectively, tear his soul apart, reconnect his souls, make it into a chimera, etc etc etc.

And also, all of the attempted trickery was obviously not going to work on Raoul. Again, he's a god at this point. And he has shown that he can read minds and souls.

I'm more interested in if he's going to do the heroic thing at the end of it all after tearing out all the villainy of the world through his obsessive revenge and recreate the world into a righteous one, since he still displays heroic tendencies.

Fair point. Some of the people he has sought revenge on were influenced directly by the gods, like the princess and the saintess. Ultimately, his revenge should be against the people who are true monsters and the gods that initiated a lot of the cruel events.
