I just can't bring myself to like him. No matter his sad backstory or how impressively tenacious he is, he still treats others like shit. I was definitely rooting for the bear. Glad she survived.

But yeah, I can't stand this guy. There is literally no way to get me to care about his success. I love plants, too and the work he's doing is incredibly important, but oh brother, this guy SUCKS!
At this point, we've all been keeping up with Isabella and Itou for years. They've been through so much and have helped so many people. Itou's always been working hard, Isabella's been working through actual back-breaking pain; they're a great duo who mutually respect one another. Then Chuck pops up and starts smacking Itou around but don't worry-he has a troubled past.
Nahhhhh. Even this backstory, you know everyone wants the bear to win. I've read Golden Kamuy-I'm siding with the bear regardless.
Under no circumstances could I ever find myself fully sympathizing with this dude. It's obvious he's been through horrendous shit too; but it's turned him into such an unlikable jerk.

Yeah, there's reasons why this chapter took so long. 1) Real life obligations, 2) long chapter, 3) every time I thought of working on it more I remembered it was just Maries being a complete douchebag and went eughhhhhhhhhh

I still really dislike Maries. Itou feels so strange in this chapter, being so subservient as well as looking different, but what choice did he have with the way Maries is? As always, thank you for the chapter. Looking forward to seeing more Isabella after this.
