I don’t see why the author decided make the character so young. Maybe he will use it later to make drama but I hope that’s not the case.

Could be many reasons, many things that makes an individual, young. Adult vs adult relationship would play differently compared to teenager vs adult relationship, no matter how immature an adult is, he/she would still have more "experiences" in life compared to a younger individual.

Completely different kind of conversations and interactions if they were both full adults. This way is more interesting, a couple with an age gap but both completely level headed and mature enough. That new character was fascinating and could have been used more. I really want more from this story but I don't think more will come.
