I know you're retiring from translating this (thanks for the translation and best of luck), but one small thing that popped into my head from looking at your TL notes is: I think that in the part about the food they are eating it's supposed to be them talking to her instead of talking about themselves, since it looks like she's the one that took the chazuke versus them getting what seem like more fancy dishes, so they're asking her if she's just making do with the simplest dish, rather than them being dissatisfied with what they are eating. Could be off the mark but that's my two cents.
