regarding the tl note, i've noticed the traditional(?) names for many flowers use 草, such as 鷺草, 霞草, and 忘れな草. i'm assuming the usage of 草 is to more closely follow japanese botanical naming practices? that isn't to say you don't see 花 used for plant names—i'm not sure what's the reason why some flowers are 花 and others are 草.
