As somebody who has started bodybuilding a year or two back (to moderate success) and did some research into it because I am that twink build, there are ways to exercise that grows your muscles but isn't actually that effective in improving the overall quality of muscles.

In fact, I know somebody like that in real life, who did a lot of bulking and focuses almost exclusively on strength training, so he can lift and squat a lot but isn't actually that fit relative to how he looks. After all, many muscles that are crucial in fitness are ones that don't really show when you train them.

It makes sense here because the setting is technically a game. TONS of games set in western-style places have katanas (and samurai armor) added, because people like them. This happens especially in games made by Japanese people, which this was. Even Elden Ring has them.

Some games give new lore for why they are present, some say "fuck you, here's a katana". This seems like the latter case.

Edit: oh but yeah, he should use a greatsword.
