To the people confused to why this manga was made (by the doraemon crew of all people), this was during the cultural exchange era between Kakuei Tanaka and Mao Zedong in 1972 which popularize china in Japanese pop culture in the following decade (such as Iron fist Chinmi, Ranma 1/2 and the OG dragonball manga). This manga was probably commissioned to show good will intention with the cultural exchange.
And me, personally, as someone that studied Mao's life, I'm actually excited i discovered this.
