While this is basically a classic gender bend story template (okay, it's a nice way of saying "cliche") I do want to say I like that she let him down gently but assertively. That's actually kind of rare in this template. Usually the rejection comes from a tearfully emotional girl who then turns around and runs before they could respond or like... they're an uber bitch about it. And in either case you're left thinking "what the heck is the protag seeing in this basketcase".
