You already have a method of propulsion, why not just create an aircraft at that point
better, faster, and more agile than a creature
Machines are susceptible to be destroyed if hit and out of commission. A creature can be healed by magic. I understand the propulsion other than a sea dragon, in which the creature is killed, injured or the lines cut from the ship like the 9 headed archipelago tactics use on their enemies.

Bro.. by that logic who teached the wright brothers to create, build and fly an aircraft from the ground up ?
Well, to be fair, it took years of work to develop both skills in parallel. But in this other world, they have beasts that have instinctive abilities with flying. I'd put some light armor on the leading edges of their wings, though.

It must have taken a lot of training to get the wyverns to do this. They would have to be trained to make only subtle movements of their wings to maneuver, since alterations in flight surfaces will produce exaggerated results at high speeds. They would also have to be more accustomed to keeping their wings in a fixed position for long-distance flight, which they might be fine with if they have a habit of soaring on thermals (a challenge, given their weight).

I would figure that the boosters would be used for fast travel to distant targets, followed by conventional flapping-wing flight to approach the target and avoid or fight with air defenses. They could land with precision, or drop bombs or other payload, and then escape at high speed with boosters activated again. Being ignorant, I do not understand the role of formation flying, except to keep things organized during linear high-speed flight, though. I suppose that coordinated attack runs on a fixed target can benefit from formation flying.

Well, you know, aeronautics (?), aerodynamics, and stuffs (idk the right word for it), how wings works, how to produce lift, etc. He might not have the knowledge for it to properly convey the idea, and finding the right "brain" will takes time, so for the time being, why not just use living beings that already know how to fly properly and add propulsion tech that he luckily stumbled upon?

Also, you know that how birds fly and how our aircrafts fly aren't exactly the same, right?
Aah! A living flight computer. Also, if the human is injured, a wyvern can still return to base indepenently.

our dude forgot parachutes need a hole to stabilize the drop, or the air cushion will sway you about wildly.
OOH! Today I learned something new!

Those paratroopers need to have a helmet with a face shield. If they are subject to high-speed flight in that rig, their eyeballs will be gouged out by the wind, or something. I suppose I don't actually know what objective speed is being called high-speed in this case. For that matter, the additional mass of a paratrooper might necessitate the booster assist just to get conventional speeds without exhausting the wyvern. Still, that looks like a shit assignment to pull.
