i wonder if he's gonna get "rewarded" the same way he got in the previous kingdom, with a knife in the back, if the treatment he's gotten so far is anything to go by it's very likely.
Every interaction MC has with someone in power in this series is a mess.

I kind of want him to operate expecting them to fuck him over going forward, this hellhole of a place especially.

I've been getting the sneaking suspicion that the next chapter will piss me off so badly that I'll want to drop the series there, I can only watch an author treat their main characters badly for so long before I get sick of it.

Who in the fucking multiverse would actually think they would live through this experience?

This kingdom has tried to literally, not figuratively but literally, murder you; multiple times, in fact.
So.
Either you are walking in to murder them back, or you're a fucking fool who lives every day through Deus ex Machina, Handwavium, and MarySueUnobtanium Magic.
Because that's really the only way for this to make sense; people don't do this.
The decisions the characters make drive the story; if the decisions make absolutely no sense, or worse, are flatly unbelievable to the reader, then we aren't able to immerse ourselves in the story.
This entire arc has been almost bereft of any possibility of the suspension of disbelief, and that is one of the only things required in a fantasy story; you can use as much magic and handwavium as you want... as long as the characters are believable and we can identify with them in some way!
But this?
This story, or at least this whole Llueff Kingdom Arc, has been some of the worst writing I've read since the 2013 Hugo Awards.

It's a shame, really.
