It's worth mentioning that there's a definite difference between good rice and the rice most westerners get in supermarkets. Rice didn't become a staple grain for a significant portion of the world by being completely tasteless after all
Plus, depends a lot on what you do with it. It's not like a bowl of plain, unseasoned cream of wheat is particularly exciting, but much like how adding some brown sugar and cinnamon to cream of wheat makes it pretty tasty, a bit of salt and pepper on rice can be pretty damn good
