I just see how a shy tomboy character inviting her friend, who is good drummer to join her band. I don't know the author's overall intentions, but at this level, it seems pretty forced. Yes, the Japanese also have a stereotype of masculine "butched" lesbians, but in Japanese culture they are seen as dominant, handsome partners on top. Plus, the manga already has a lesbian/bisexual major character.

Perhaps, but at this point you're expecting a subversion of the stereotype before it's even been shown in the first place. I mean, we haven't been shown that she's a lesbian at all yet, you just expect her to be so because you're projecting Western expectations of boyish female characters onto her.
