Hey everyone,
I’m on the hunt for horror stories that really get under your skin. Manga, manhwa, OEL—anything goes, as long as it brings that creeping dread and unforgettable atmosphere.
What I’m into:
  • Apocalyptic or hopeless worlds
  • Humans no longer being at the top of the food chain
  • Death, fear, blood—but with purpose, not just random gore
  • Deep psychological horror or existential tension
  • Stories that leave you unsettled or disturbed long after reading
Some stuff I’ve read and liked:
  • 44th Period – Super underrated, amazing concept and creepy worldbuilding.
  • Sweet Home – Loved it. But ended to fast.
  • Shotung Boy – Intense psychological horror.
  • Phantom Whispers – Mysterious and layered.
  • Leviathan and HIVE – Great “humans are prey” vibes, but I want even more dread.
I’m not just after the popular titles—if you know an underrated gem or something that deserves more attention, please drop it. I love finding those lesser-known series that hit harder than expected.
Got anything that fits? Looking for stories that make you feel small, unsafe, or just wrong.

looks like most of those are manhwa?
how about Hell is Other People?

I read most of Watari Chie's manga when I was a kid
and those really scared me
but then again, I was just a kid, and those are more like ghost stories than unsettling horror

Gannibal? I guess?
does that fit your criteria?

Suspicious Diet Club I’d think would be pretty horrifying even without the suspicious implications happening in the story but not ideal to read if you’ve struggled with an ED, but it is an interesting horror story that’s also psychologically based on the realism/self image issues

Yoshimi Seki Horror Collection is a really good collection of crisis / panic horror. The artwork in the beginning is kinda misleading, it is not an over the top splatter manga, its focus is on social commentary and despair.

Zangekikan is a very tense collection of stories that mix splatter and thriller elements. The art is an acquired taste (even though I am a fan I think his artwork is often wonky) and its kinda hit or miss but the hits are REALLY good.

Anything by Umezz is great. 14, Baptism and Hebi-Onna are all masterpieces.

GO HOME by Hideshi Hino is one of his last works and one of the most depressing, a lot of existencialism and body horror that makes you feel powerless. Zouroku's Strange Disease is also very good.

The first story of Gankyu Kitan by Miyako Cojima is the only translated but it is definitely very creepy and unsettling.

Some other ones: 7Seeds, Litchi Hikari Club and Inugami Hakase.

I haven't read it but a lot of people like Ura Baito.

I don't remember the title because I don't read horror I didn't even remember a manga I read. But, I remember some plot about the mangaka stop his manga because he got haunted, radio something something. And one story about some dude reincarnated to a world where human are stock and he get eaten and got reincarnated again to be the animal.

After searchin I found the title. PTSD Radio and Human Animal.
