See, I have this bad(?) habit of judging a chapter’s impact the number of comments. After a certain point, the comments go from 30ish on average, and spiking to 50 or 100, to 4 or less on average, maximum 6.
I think this is because the anime was announced in 2019, and ended in 2023. Over time the hype died down and people stopped commenting. I’d assume the chapters weren’t on Mangadex at the time and that’s why people didn’t comment on the last chapters at the peak of popularity.
There are 6 comments on the chapter where the gold is found. It’s sad but we’ll never see what the guys commenting during the anime’s run would say about this. It’s bittersweet, learning about how so many people died for this gold, Asirpa learning about Wilk’s past, and knowing the Golden Kamuy is an evil one, she can’t even manage a smile. Just a somber look because she probably knows the gold isn’t worth the battle to come, and that Sugimoto may leave her forever.
