If the way to identify the fake skins involves getting them wet and touching iron to leave a mark on them... won't that mark remain on the fake skins? And wouldn't anyone checking the fake skins notice the marks, put 2 & 2 together, and realise they're the fake ones?

There aren't any marks on the fake skins so how would they know they are fake? The marks only appear if the skins touch iron when they are wet, and the method is known only to Lt. Tsurumi.
