This is SUCH a good superhero comic. This chapter is the thing that so many superhero movies have missed for... decades, now. That they're not just fighting bad guys, but that they're saving people. Having the hero go and meet people and not being treated like a distant god, but instead being happy to see them and give them gifts and talk openly about how they've helped or even that they bet against him in the fight is perfect.
That's the core part of this fantasy. Being a guy who people like and rely on. That he was nervous he didn't do a good job, that he was sure people were going to blame him for failure, that he looked at all the devastation and blamed himself almost feels like a pointed barb at the CGI-enabled mass destruction that mass-market movies have started to rely on. That the manga goes out of its way to be like "nah man rebuilding shit's easy, all the broken shit gets recycled and then robots make everything" and that's why everyone's totally fine with half the city blowing up is such a fun touch. Neo New York gets leveled and then everyone comes out of their bunkers and goes "oh, it'll be like 2 days before things are back to normal" and that's a plot point? Brilliant stuff
