i think it happens with some kdramas too but yeah these kinda cliches still happen, versus them trying to do something diff with a bl/yuri story (tho even those have triangles/pentagons/etcs too), but there's not a romance tag so i imagine it'll probably not be a focus, if not him just forever being ignorant of everyone's feelings if not still holding a candle for the og/actress Noona

Yeah, it always seem to be that whoever has the higher status ends up the main love interest. But they make it palatable here by making her a childhood friend instead.

Dunno how common it is with male mcs but i know for some kdramas there's like '2nd male lead syndrome' where the second love interest gets paired off anyways or like "This is the canon pair but this other love interest seemed better together" (tho depending on the tight schedule i wouldn't be surprised if some stuff was written halfway for filming and based on feed back they make the final pair what the fans want or so (if it's not just based on who's more popular/handsome between the actors lol)
Tho given he acts mature enough for that one girl that he set up with his other army buddy to be called "Grandpa", maybe while he's fond of them he doesn't see them as women if he's like a 40 year old around 20 year olds (which i'm sure still happens even without the regression bs but yeah might depend on the story. Tho given his current stuff he's prolly too busy on his career versus being a lover, tho it'd make more sense for him to get with a newer person if only b/c they'd basically be around each other if they work together as opposed to an actress he'd only see know and then)
