In all honesty it looks like he fired pretty much everyone who lied to him about his servant and who would you trust a servant you took in by pure generosity or your son and appointed advisor...

He probably knew he was the only one capable of fighting them he even insisted that he needs to stay and if he shown promise they could have sent him to the magic academy without him going through the school with issues.
