The evidence isn't presented in the story itself. What is presented is something that appears to be evidence, but we have reasons to question it. You don't need any meta-knowledge to question whether Evil McBadguy is telling the truth.I mean sure, but that relies totally on meta-knowledge about the nature of the story and the type of genre this belongs to. The contrary evidence isn't presented in the story itself.
One of my favourite films is The Usual Suspects. There's a lot of information there that's straight out false. There are clues as well.but there's no such thing as useless or false information. Information can be misleading, but it can't just be wrong with no in-story reason to suspect it's wrong.
It's not so much my philosophy of writing as it is of life. Question everything. Well, within reason, but that's beside the point. Characters make mistakes. They sometimes lie. Sometimes what they believe just isn't true.
Yes, it is. But if the end result is just more angst, I don't think it's a good result. If anything, it would've shown that agency didn't matter in this case.Agency is a huge deal.
To be honest, I find more hope in him surviving. She made the choice, and she succeeded, and that is far more hopeful that failing despite trying.there's hope.
Could, sure, but that'd be a different story.Couldn't she also realize that in her pain, but fight through it with the support of those around her? Can't beating the darkness be uplifting, even if it's bittersweet?
Which I find that to be the throughline of your argument — you seem to want to read a different story than this is.
A gut punch would've been far more effective if he was a better person. What I'd rather hope for is more of a redemption arc for him. I don't think we'll see that, though. Characters in need of redemption is usually either killed (before or after changing their mind), or it's clean-slated one way or another.from the unhealthy way Jade approached Alina, to Alina's own reticence to be helpful even when others needed her most, I hoped he was lining us up for a gut punch.
It's more interesting than most of the comments on mangas. Probably won't change much, no, but that wasn't the goal. It's always interesting to hear other people's perspective, especially if they're of a different opinion and aren't being obnoxious about it. Though at this point, I don't have much more to say.True, but this discussion isn't going to change much is it?
