i get the gist but 4/4 time means there are four quarter notes to a bar, not an individual note. you can extend this to eight eighth notes, sixteen sixteenth notes, etc etc. of course this will vary based on the time signature, like a 5/8 time signature will have 5 eighth notes to a bar
