Going the Anthology route - I echo the sentiment that
@Beltaro expressed, in hoping that we keep the introduced cast and have them continue to exist in the world and in the lives of Kasumi & Haruyo. So much care and attention was put into even just the Boxcutter Senpais (
absolutely their pairing moniker going forward, my goodness), and we're getting it again from Yamabe in just this introduction.
But....I'm
so glad that someone could speak to the same fears and anxieties that Kasumi has been grappling with. It's not going to make her worries magically disappear, but it's a point of reference:
she's not alone, and someone she can plainly see before her, managed to come out the other end okay and upright. It might not be Picture Perfect, but Yamabe's got a fulfilling life, and has found peace with her own academic past.
That's not to say that everything's smooth sailing, but perhaps Kasumi gave her a bit of that relief back at the end of this chapter - even if it was a white lie (or a potentially bigger one, who knows if this comes back around sometime in the future), Yamabe seemed to feel real relief. There's a bit of that regret still lingering; she's wistful in remembering That Girl when she sees Kasumi & Haru run off hand-in-hand. But, she still moves forward in the last panel. And that's important, in and of itself.
(And speaking of hand-in-hand; that juxtaposition of "hands holding" and "hand gripping arm" was
so delightful. The clear visual representation of imbalance and force in gripping one's arm as opposed to her hand, clearly contrasts Kasumi & Haru's relationship, and the one Yamabe remenisces over in that brief moment. Just another example of how much the author knows her shit.)
Just more fantastic stuff, incredible art, sentiments that make me tear up, and of course the Haruyo Expressions Extravaganza that we all need more of in our lives.
Thank you for your continued work on and care for this series.
