getting kinda annoyed that all "serious" fights in this manga follow this pattern
protagonist seems to have an advantage, then they get the tables turned on them, they get to the point where they should probably throw in the towel, but they keep going sacrificing their health, and they manag to get a punch in that caused a final down
bonus points if winner has more damage than the loser, if outboxers start infighting, and if the protagonist claims his win as only due to his bond with his second/trainer
like I don't mind those fights, but I'm begging for some variety

I think it gets more varied, but not in the way you may like. I just read the second half of this fight after looking the last aired chapter (which was pretty lame btw), and this hooked me up very badly. So, maybe it doesn't get better? It's up to you to judge, of course.

Overall I quite liked the fight, but I think it suffered from being a bit too long and predictable and until the finale, not the most interesting.
Miyata shooting himself in the foot by using too much gas in the earlier parts of the fight, despite smacking around Randy Boy at the time was a nice development and a good show of Miyata's stubbornness and insistence on using his father boxing and the development of the upper angled punch into the delivery was fantastic however.
That being said, I think RB should have absolutely been more of a menace to Miyata considering how much of a seeming advantage he had over Miyata. I feel like we didn't get to see enough of his switch hitting.
Ultimately I really like RB's backstory reveal and the clashing bonds between each boxer and their father, and I really liked how at the end there, Miyata shed his fathers boxing and was able to develop something on his own.
