People are reaming Takamura for his take but honestly, as Ippo is, I agree with him. Regardless of his upgraded techniques or better muscles, he has yet to cross that line and enter the world of, well, worlds. Both physically and mentally, he's still standing behind that line and lacks the ambition and motivation to step over it.

its not even so much about physically, my main gripe with ippo since the beginning of the series is he doesn't have the makings of a boxer. His mindset is too weak, not just him acting nice he doesn't believe in himself he goes into fights with this glass half full attitude and God forbid he starts to lose rounds then he just spirals. Someone like that could never be a world champ let alone his boxing skills are not up to par. But I would definitely say takamura is completely right here, ippo has to actually want to become a world champ and believe he can do it and not just try meet the expectations of the coach otherwise he will fail again.
